Alicia Vikander for “Twist” by Louis Vuitton

Louis Vuitton News

An Oscar makes you smile wider, shine brighter and also… well, become a new fashion icon, apparently. This is because if very few noticed your previous ad campaign a few years ago, a new Oscar will make the next one big news. For all those who were wildly cheering for Vikander’s nomination at the Oscars 2016, where she also looked stunning in her flawless fashion choices (a beautiful Louis Vuitton gown), there is a new surprise in the corner. Louis Vuitton has released its new ad campaign for “Twist,” where Alicia Vikander has the lead and only role. They don’t give an Oscar for this role, but fan appreciation is always welcome.

Featuring only a white screen and beautiful Vikander, the ad teases us with a new collection of Louis Vuitton Twist bags that look so much more fun when presented by the Swedish actress. Wearing mainly knit sweaters and ruffled tops, posing in playful sporty style, Vikander shows us the new Louis Vuitton handbags made of crocodile leather, lambskin, and fantastic decorations like embroidered braids. Certainly not a favorite, if you’re an animal rights fighter… (I wonder if the choices of these materials would affect her fan base).

Most of the handbags have the double chain, always thought the chain can turn into a handy weapon for women walking alone at night, and we can’t hide our excitement about it! The ad campaign debuted in two forms: print and video. While the photos let us get more details of the products and stare at the beauty of the actress a little more, it’s the video that sets the atmosphere and gives out the soul of the new collection. It’s named Twist for a reason…

The video shows Alicia Vikander having fun, twisting and dancing (those ballet moves finally coming in handy) with the handbags, wearing a simple and casual outfit each one of us can pull off everyday. Does it mean this is a mainstream collection that can appeal to any woman? Maybe!

What’s best about the Louis Vuitton Twist collection is that it combines different styles, starting from the classic black handbag and ending with the flirty pink one… pick your personality or mood. And, to be honest, the only decoration you actually need is the big LV on the cover… a small sign that tells an entire story and message.

The actress is wearing natural messy hair and almost no makeup (or very little makeup), which makes us want to stand up and dance even more. Celebrity collaborations happen so often in the world of fashion, that we should most probably expect more partnership between the actress and the brand coming our way. A quick reminder that Vikander started her first Louis Vuitton collab back in 2016 for a cruise season collection! It would be a pity to lose an inspiring brand face like her…

Louis Vuitton Spring/Summer 2016 Bags

Louis Vuitton News

We’ve have been completely overwhelmed by all the fabulous bags coming our way this season. Just in case you haven’t been following the instagram and the #PurseBopGoesToParis adventures, I have been investigating the latest bag styles just for YOU. Many of the styles I saw in France haven’t hit the US shelves yet, so you’ll be ahead of your shopping game when they’re released in the states. So far, I’ve taken an up close look at the Chanel Spring 2016 Patent Boy Bags and also did a thorough comparison of the Chloe Drew Bags.

Today, I’m here to share a sneak peek of Louis Vuitton’s new bags from the Spring/Summer 2016 collection. You’ll agree with me that some of these bags are true pieces of art!

Some Louis Vuitton SS16 bags are already available for purchase in the US. Others are expected to hit the shelves at the end of this month and early February.

The Louis Vuitton SS16 collection has a very futuristic, sci-fi vibe that still honors LV’s traditional styles and structures. Nicolas Ghesquiere quoted that the sci-fi movie Tron was his basis of inspiration for this line. Some bags such as the Alma were adorned with large, shiny embellishments making them look more like techy machines rather than just simple handbags. Other bags I saw had large, almost cartoon like graphics playing up on the idea of computer generated, digital fun. More than anything, Ghesquiere’s experimental attitude is apparent in this collection. The handbag is taken out of its everyday context and turned into a high-tech fantasy.

The Mirrored Alma is a standout piece of the collection and immediately draws your eye. This is a bag that demands recognition for being unique, but it isn’t so out there and eccentric to the point of being impractical. The mirrored circles are very shiny and reflective, which adds a cool dimensionality to the bag especially when you’re carrying it.

Region Louis Vuitton Mirrored Alma
USA $5,500
Europe €3,800
VAT Refund (approx. 10%) - €380
Cost after VAT €3,420
USD Equivalent $3,726

Handbag Math…

Louis Vuitton Alma in United States: $5,500

Louis Vuitton Alma in France: €3,800

Total Price in US: $5,500 + $564 (tax 10.25%) = $6,064

Potential Savings in France: €3,800 – €380 (VAT refund 10%) = €3,420 = $3,726 USD equivalent (savings ~ 39%)

The Louis Vuitton City Steamer I saw at the Paris store was definitely one of the more understated pieces of the collection. The colorblocking of red, gold/tan, and black still makes a statement, but would be suitable for everyday wear.

This fabulous Louis Vuitton Twist bag is a perfect example of the very digital, graphic patterns featured in this collection. The chain print alludes to LV’s monogram, but with the freshness of the future.

I must say LV was not holding back on quirky, statement pieces in this collection! Each of these bags can speak for themselves and you may just find the perfect one to help your collection pop during the spring.

Keeping checking back to stay on top of the game for next season. have more Spring/Summer 2016 updates very soon!

IF MONEY WERE NO OBJECT, WOULD YOU SPEND $60,000 ON A BAG?

Louis Vuitton News

A couple months ago, we brought you news of Louis Vuitton’s most expensive women’s bag ever, but the brand has already eclipsed itself handily. An ombre crocodile version of the popular Louis Vuitton Capucines Bag will now set you back a cool $60,500, easily beating the $55,500 City Steamer.

Although third-party retailers tend to cap their own stock under $40,000, brands that have a clientele willing to spend more often stock special pieces that exceed that range in their own stores. $60,500 is the highest public listing I’ve ever seen from a brand online–Céline andChanel, for example, prompt shoppers to inquire privately in order to learn the prices of their most expensive items. That’s not the case for Vuitton, which brings us to today’s question.

If you were in a position to be buying $60,000 handbags, would you? At that level of wealth, you’d have plenty of money to make whatever charitable contributions you want, support any causes you like, have a number of beautiful homes, travel frequently–the expenditure wouldn’t put a dent in what you can spend in other areas of your life. It’s more a question of interest and personal limits: would you enjoy having a bag like this enough to justify in your own mind the price difference versus the regular leather version?

You can get more info on the bag (which is hand-dyed to achieve a unique range of color on every piece) via Louis Vuitton.
