Louis Vuitton New Bags – Cruise 2018 Runway Bag Collection – A Homage To Japanese Culture

Fashion Trends

The Louis Vuitton Cruise 2018 Runway Bag Collection is the fashion God’s love of Japan coming to life. Nicolas Ghesquière designed this set of Louis Vuitton new bags with only one thing in mind: japanese art and culture. Never have the flavors of Japan ever colored a range of bags in a captivating manner as Ghesquière’s. And we could not be more jubilant! It is no secret that the master designer is in love with the Japanese culture. It is only fitting that he would dedicate an entire fashion range of Louis Vuitton bags to the mystical island.

On a first look, you would only see a wonderful medley of colors and patterns. But those with an eye for fashion and style would not fail to recognize the wonderful style. It is an unusual, yet captivating charm weaved into these bags. The great fashion house unveiled the Louis Vuitton new bags at Miho museum, an hour’s drive from Tokyo. The collection features the typical Japanese themes such as Samurais, Manga, Kabuki, Obi belts. And, of course, the enchanting Japanese landscape. All were designed by the much-beloved Kansaï Yamamoto, with whom the Louis Vuitton designer has partnered up with.

Here are a few highlights of the Louis Vuitton Cruise 2018 Runway

  • Louis Vuitton Speedy bags that almost entirely discarded the traditional LV Monogram canvas

If you know your handbags, you would be familiar with the traditional design of Louis Vuitton Speedy bags. That means sparse designs against a canvas of LV Monograms. There were a few Louis Vuitton speedy bags that sported this conventional pattern with Japanese-themed designs. Other bags had completely discarded tradition and done more bold, vivid Japanese patterns. The darker, sober colors of LV were seen to be replaced by the more bold colors of Japan.

  • Peeping eyes bags

This was a stunning new addition to Louis Vuitton’s collections. Yamamoto took a very bold step in adding a pair of huge eyes, peeping form the flaps of the bags. Peeping eyes bags include all kinds of handbags – Speedy bags, Petite Malle Cases, crossbodies and so on. The peeping eyes are characteristic of Japanese drama, which involves exaggerated eye-gestures. The addition of such unusually big eyes was a show-stopper. Perhaps it might have been used in this manner for the first time.

  • Japanese lanterns-inspired Bucket Bags

Nothing reflected Ghesquière’s passion for Japan as much as the Louis Vuitton Bucket Bags. These Louis Vuitton Bucket Bags are designed base on traditional Japanese lanterns, and designed with sober Japanese patterns. One of the Louis Vuitton Bucket Bags also stuck to tradition and sported the conventional LV Monogram canvas.

  • Tradition was not entirely eschewed

Louis Vuitton New Bags - Cruise 2018 - Monogram Bags

How could LV leave behind entirely the typical, chocolate-brown LV Monogram canvas? This is the pattern that is the hallmark of Louis Vuitton bags. The Louis Vuitton new bags range also has plenty of bags, designed as per tradition. The LV Monogram canvas features on every type of bag. That means all the classics: Petite Malle Cases, Speedy Bags, Hat Box Bags, Hobo Bags and so on.

All in all, the Louis Vuitton Cruise 2018 Runway Bag Collection is a daring new reinvention. This is generally expected from an all new bag collection. Chanel and Dior’s had stunning presentations of their captivating designs. After these Louis Vuitton had to do something to outdo expectations. Besides, it was a fitting tribute to the culture and history of Japan. As Ghesquière himself said, “Every cruise collection is a discovery and it’s a game of integrating the culture of the country we are visiting with a point of view that is very French and Parisian.”

Louis Vuitton Launches Luxury Smartwatch

Jewelry & Watches

The French fashion house Louis Vuitton is the latest brand that decided to hop on the wearable tech bandwagon. Louis Vuitton’s first smartwatch carries the name Tambour Horizon. The fashion house certainly loves to challenge themselves with innovative products. Recently they collaborated with the exclusive sportswear brand Supreme. Additionally, the brand’s mini trunk bag designed by the creative director Nicolas Ghesquière as well as the cashmere blankets were a major success as well.

The latest product in the series of innovative launches is their first piece of wearable tech. The Tambour Horizon watch is a modern upgrade of the original Tambour watch with Google’s Android Wear 2.0 operating system. The technology is packed in a 42mm case and works with both Android phones and iPhones. The watch is available in 3 different styles and finishes: polished, satin finish and all black. All the styles are unisex, wearable and designed to blend with any outfit. On top of that, there is a variety of downloadable digital watch faces and 60 different interchangeable strap options.

The smartwatch is designed to work internationally and it’s perfect for the trendsetters who are constantly on the go. For travelers, the brand installed two exclusive travel-centric apps on the smartwatch. The first app is called “The Flight” and is designed to gather the traveler’s air travel info on one place. The other app is called “City Guide” and includes recommendations and tips for exploring the place once you land. The battery life of the smartwatch is similar to those of other smartphones and lasts about a day.“It’s something that is pretty new on the market and at the same time very interesting,” said the vice-president of watches and jewelry at LV Hamidi Chatti. Considering the fact that smartwatches have been on the market for a while this is definitely not a new product.Louis Vuitton’s smartwatch will do everything that a regular smartwatch will do. You could receive text messages, set an alarm, explore the internet, etc. There are also a couple of features that separate the Tambour Horizon watch from the other smartwatches on the market. First, the 42mm dial is the smallest among the luxury smartwatches. Also, Tambour Horizon is the first Android smartwatch that is designed to function in China. This is extremely important for the brand because China is one of Louis Vuitton’s largest markets when it comes to jewelry and watches.

Louis Vuitton’s vice president Chatti revealed that the making of the watch took 2 years. The brand wanted to make sure that they had the perfect product. Their main goal was to create a blend of luxury and beauty in a tech version.

As for the technology part of the design, Louis Vuitton teamed up with Google and Qualcomm. The brand had strict requirements about the design. They didn’t want to compromise on the beauty of the watch and asked Google and Qualcomm to come up with a system that will fit in the style that they designed.

If you want to get your hands on the luxury Tambour Horizon smartwatch, expect to spare at least $2,450. Since we are talking about a smartwatch made by one of the most prestigious luxury fashion houses the price shouldn’t surprise us at all.

However, the smartwatches aren’t a novelty in the Louis Vuitton’s family. The brand’s sister company, Tag Heuer, also dropped its first smartwatch back in 2015. Their main concern was the strong competition from the tech giants Apple and Samsung. Surprisingly, the watches outdid everyone’s expectation in sales. They sold 56,000 units, which was three times more than what they expected. The brand expects to sell over 150,000 units this year.

It’s safe to say that lately, the customers are more interested in wearable technology driven accessories. Louis Vuitton revealed that they are working on other technology driven pieces that can be controlled from the smartwatch. Chatti adds that the future plans will release when the technology is ready and it makes sense for their clients.

For quite a few years, we saw most of the high-end watchmakers and luxury fashion brands stay away from smartwatches. But lately we are witnessing a trend reversal and in the last one and half year many of these brands have made their foray into the segment. After Tag Heuer, Montblanc, Emporio Armani, Michael Kors, and Tommy Hilfiger, Louis Vuitton has become the latest to a swing at the luxury smartwatch market. The famed French designer brand has launched its first smartwatch named the Tambour Horizon Watch. Louis Vuitton developed the watch in partnership with Google and Qualcomm and it runs on Android Wear 2.0.

Louis Vuitton F/W17 Shiny Epi Pochette Métis

Handbags

IMAGE: LOUIS VUITTON

If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it. But if you want to sell more of the same thing, you come up with more variations, of course. Yes, I’m talking about Louis Vuitton’s now iconic (and much-loved) Pochette Métis, first launched in 2013 in Monogram Canvas and now reinterpreted by Nicolas Ghesquiere for the F/W17 collection. Having since been launched in Monogram Reverse, Monogram Infrarouge and even Monogram Empreinteleather, this season you’ll find it in Shiny Epi, which is basically patent Epileather.

What’s also new is its size, with the Shiny Epi Pochette Métis coming in Mini. Measuring 20 cm by 14 cm by 6 cm, it’s definitely smaller than the MM, with the added hanging key holder chain a new feature. Available in Navy (matched with Monogram Reverse) and Orange (matched with Monogram Canvas), you can carry it via its top handle or wear it across the body by using the long chain sling.

But if Shiny Epi ain’t your thing, know that the Pochette Métis will come in Denim Epi (MM size), in florals printed on Epi leather in both sizes and even one that comes with brogue detailing on the front flap of the bag. In other words, as and when more pics (and prices) come in, there’ll be more updates soon enough so stay tuned.
